Funds will go towards the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at William Harvey Hospital.
Based at Orbital Park in Ashford, Boon Edam UK runs an ongoing initiative that refurbishes and recycles used IT equipment, helping reduce electronic waste. This year, the company chose to donate the proceeds to the NICU in recognition of the care provided for the newborn baby of one of their employees, Lloyd Sharp.
Lloyd’s son, Arthur, was born prematurely at just 30 weeks and spent 128 days in the NICU. The experience left a lasting impact on Lloyd and his family, prompting Boon Edam to make a meaningful contribution to the unit that played such a vital role in Arthur’s care.
The company said: “Lloyd Sharp (Boon Edam UK IT Dept.) relied upon the care of this special unit when little Arthur decided to pop out prematurely at 30 weeks. Their visit to the unit lasted a lengthy 128 days! The amount raised was through the annual recycling of IT equipment. This is an ongoing incentive where we try to avoid expired IT equipment that is still of good use from going to landfill or WEEE waste bins.”
