Staff use knitted breasts to demonstrate hand expression and supporting breastfeeding. Knitted breasts can be made in any colour and be of any size meeting equity and diversity needs of families using maternity services. The bright colour combinations can add some fun to supporting families with hand expression and breastfeeding. Relaxed, happy mothers are more like likely to succeed with hand expression.

As staff work towards achieving UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative Accreditation it is important that all families are offered information and support with hand expression and getting breastfeeding off to a good start. Midwives and support workers in the community often work alone and outside of the hospital therefore having access to their own knitted breast is needed.

We are so grateful to the people who have already knitted some for us, thank you so much.

Please send your completed breasts to:

East Kent Hospitals Charity
