Congratulations to Lucie Rudd, joint clinical lead for end-of-life care across the Trust, who took on the Manchester Marathon on Sunday 27 April, raising £962 so far for East Kent Hospitals Charity.

Lucie said: “I have to say it was really, really hard. The heat was so unexpected and brutal, especially for Manchester! It wasn’t a day for a PB - definitely a day to stay safe and get around. Although I’d have loved to shave a few minutes off my time, I am proud to have finished in 5 hours and 3 minutes, which is exactly the same time to the minute that I completed the London Marathon in - 14 years ago - so I’ll take that as a win!”

As well as overcoming the unexpected temperature, Lucie also battled struggles with her knee in the run-up to the race.

She said: “I’d like to give a shout-out to Georgie Day and the physio team – the staff self-referral service is so amazing. I saw Georgie a few weeks ago with a knee niggle that I was really worried about – she saw me super quickly, taped me up and followed up after my longest training run to make sure I was ok. It’s such an amazing service, I am so grateful to her and the team!

“Overall, I feel really proud - it was a huge challenge. The crowds were amazing. I will be forever grateful to the people of Manchester who stood outside their homes with their garden hoses on so we could all run through them to cool down!

“I am so grateful for all the messages of support I have had from friends and colleagues across the hospital and delighted with how much we have raised for our palliative care wards – thank you so much everyone.”

Lucie’s husband is cycling from London to Edinburgh and back for our charity in August.

Lucie said: “It's my husband Dan’s turn now – and he’s doing really well – he’s already raised £673!”
